A Heart Is A Spade Interview: Ellie Goulding

By Matt | Published: February 16, 2011

Catch Ellie Goulding on her North American tour. Watch ‘Lights’ here. Ellie Goulding recently shared a Heart Playlist. Like Ellie Goulding on Facebook.

1. How do American audiences differ from others?

When I was in Los Angeles, the audience was young and very loud. The New York crowd was a bit older yet really enthusiastic. In general, American fans are a lot more reserved – they tend not to show emotion at gigs.

2. Can you kindly list a few dream collaborators?

Paul Epworth is someone that I’ve wanted to work with for a long time. I also really love Drake, I’m obsessed with him. I also adore Nicki Minaj & Lissie.

3. What’s the greatest pop song of all time?

‘Yesterday’ by The Beatles is the most beautiful song ever. I wish I’d written it.

4. What are your plans & goals for 2011?

I have no idea really. I’ll be at a few UK festivals this summer. It depends who wants me. I’ll start some demo recordings but there’s no need to rush that.

5. Are there any misconceptions that you’d like to clear up?

A while back, I went to Frankmusik with the audio files to ‘Wish I Stayed’. Later, he was working with Sky Ferreira and she recorded her voice over it. The internet is saying that it’s by Britney Spears – it’s not, that’s my song.
