1. How would you describe your sound in twenty words or less?
A big gay rainbow during a tropical storm.
2. Explain the recording process and inspiration behind Union.
I made cymbal crashes from time warped triangle clangs and build-ups from scrunching tin foil. I spent a whole day tuning a set of kids handbells with a hammer. My guitarist used a pedal called the strymon which we became obsessed with so there’s a lot of warpy delay and atmosphere in places. I did all the writing, programming and vocals alone in my house which was really isolating and I got cabin fever. Then my band and I recorded a lot of live stuff in a candy factory which is now an arts community/home to all Spanish people with mullets in London. We watched a lot of Dr. Tran on YouTube in our breaks. My inspiration came from extreme places, from Neil Diamond to The Knife and films like Where The Wild Things Are and Flight Of The Navigator and lots in between.
3. Can you kindly list a few dream collaborators?
Nina Hagen, Orbital, Trentemoller, MIA, Antony Hegarty, Victoria Chaplin.
4. What’s the greatest pop song of all time?
Pah! Hard one. I’ll go for ‘Enjoy The Silence’ this time.
5. What do you have in store for the remainder of 2012?
A bit more touring in the UK, working out my second single release, I’ve got a couple of collaborations coming up, and I’ll be thinking about my second album. I desperately want to get to America somehow to play.
